How to use
- Enter the same floor area you are covering.
- Enter the square feet printed on the roll.
- Set the waste percent. Ten is a starting value. Use zero if you will piece every offcut.
- Press Calculate. The hero is rolls.
How it's calculated
Area with waste = floor area × (1 + waste ÷ 100). Rolls = that area ÷ coverage per roll, rounded up.
A roll that divides the area exactly still rounds only if waste pushes it over a whole roll. The round-up uses a tiny tolerance so an exact integer is not bumped up by floating-point noise.
Worked example
Five hundred square feet at 10 percent waste is 550 square feet. A roll that covers 100 square feet means 6 rolls. Without waste the same floor is 5 rolls.
Assumptions
One coverage for every roll, and waste as a percent of area rather than a fixed extra roll. Seams that must be taped are not given a separate allowance. Put that in the waste percent if you need it.
FAQ
Is 10 percent required?
No. It is the number in the box when the page loads. Replace it.
Does this include the flooring itself?
No. Flooring square feet, vinyl boxes, and carpet yards are separate pages.
What if rolls come in two sizes?
Run the page twice, once per coverage, and buy the mix you actually want.
Can I enter a square-yard roll?
Convert it to square feet first. One square yard is 9 square feet.
